Final chance to attend Journey with an Unaccompanied Child.

Refugee Youth Service is delivering one final session of our Journey with an Unaccompanied Child training on 22 June.

This free online training is for professionals, volunteers and organisations supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

The session helps participants better understand children’s journeys, rights and needs, and reflect on how to offer safer, more informed and child-centred support.

With heavy hearts, we share that Refugee Youth Service will be closing this summer due to funding constraints.

Since 2016, we have stood alongside over 10,000 displaced children and young people across four countries — providing safe spaces, protection and community.

We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved, and deeply grateful to the staff, volunteers, funders, partners, and young people who made this work possible.

The need however is greater than ever and unaccompanied children continue to face an increasingly hostile environment. We urge continued support for the organisations carrying this work forward.

In our remaining months, we will focus on finishing well — gradually and safely concluding our work with young people, compiling and sharing what we have learned through an online bank of resources, and offering our Journey with an Unaccompanied Child training free to anyone supporting unaccompanied children.

🆘 How many more children need to suffer before change happens?

In the first half of 2024, 262 children were wrongly placed in adult accommodation or detention after flawed Home Office age assessments. Some were even charged with crimes and held in adult prisons.

The UK’s broken age assessment process is putting young lives at risk. Children deserve protection, not punishment. ❌

We demand urgent reform:
📌 Stop relying on visual assessments at the border
📌 Publish full data on age disputes
📌 Ensure children are not left to fend for themselves in unsafe environments
